The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., was dedicated on 28 August 2011, the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It is inscribed with inspiring quotes from Dr. King that highlight his efforts for freedom, justice, and equality through his philosophy of non-violence. The memorial is located in West Potomac Park at 1964 Independence Avenue, which references the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It was the first monument on the National Mall to honor an African-American.

Each part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial has a special significance to the civil rights leader it honors. Dedicated on 28 August 2011, the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the monument is located at West Potomac Park at 1964 Independence Avenue, S.W., referencing the year the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law, and inspiring quotes by Dr. King surround the memorial highlighting his striving for freedom, justice, and equality through his non-violent philosophy.
