The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., was dedicated on 28 August 2011, the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It is inscribed with inspiring quotes from Dr. King that highlight his efforts for freedom, justice, and equality through his philosophy of non-violence. The memorial is located in West Potomac Park at 1964 Independence Avenue, which references the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It was the first monument on the National Mall to honor an African-American.
